Coming Home Program at Patton ParkPatton Park duplex

As part of the housing project, 38 housing units in Patton Park will be developed for transitional housing and one dining facility, with 20 of the houses having been completed in May 2002. The properties were built in 1962 and conveyed in 1998 to VTC under the McKinney Act after the closure of Fort Ord. The housing is single story and wood framed. The buildings, containing 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms, are configured for families and individuals, male and female. The housing requires major renovation in order to comply with local housing regulations. VTC is using donations and grants to restore these houses into homes for veterans and their families. Renovation on the first 20 units began September 4, 2001.

This program is providing transitional housing and counseling services to veterans for a period of up to 24 months. During the program, veterans are dealing with mental health issues, physical disabilities, and transitioning from homelessness to self-sufficiency. While veterans are dealing with these issues, they are also beginning to learn life management skills so that they are able to sustain themselves in the future. We are providing these opportunities for veterans who are willing to commit to being clean and sober, changing their lives and learning the skills needed to become self-sufficient. Surrounded by other veterans with similar challenges, veterans learn to help one another and form a community.
