SUCCESS STORIES

Keith L. Simi: Finding the Way

Four years ago, Vietnam War veteran Keith Simi was in a Marina men's shelter outreach program, wanting to put his life back together, but unsure how to go about it. He heard about the Veterans Transition Center and the program they have for helping homeless veterans such as himself. He decided to apply and hoped to get back on his feet. Now as graduate of the program, he has established himself as a solid part of the community and now works as Resource Developer for VTC.

Calvin D Rose: Riding Off into the Sunset

Calvin has a long history in the military and civil service, his career spanning the globe from Thailand during the Vietnam War, Germany in the years after, and finally the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey. Calvin lost his job with the down sizing of the military. After years of hard work, he felt so discouraged that he decided to go the the streets to receive "hand to mouth assistance," as he called it. Calvin said that life on the streets was tough. Little income, only a car for a roof over his head and frustration with the difficulties he now faced caused him to reach out to VTC for help. VTC offered him the food, shelter, kindness, and friendship he needed to get back on his feet. Calvin has recently moved to Tombstone, Arizona, with the help of some money he inherited. He told VTC that this will be his new start, in a new land where anything is possible. Calvin, we want to wish you luck in your new life and want to thank you for the privilege of knowing you.
