THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND STAFF OF THE VETERANS TRANSITION CENTER OF MONTEREY COUNTY ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE APPOINTMENT OF COL KURT SCHAKE, USAF (RET.), TO THE POSITION OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.

A recent transplant to the Monterey Peninsula, Mr. Schake joins us from the Bay Area, developing programs and growth for Vocational Education institutions throughout the San Francisco and East Bay region since 2009.

Kurt is strongly focused on helping Veterans within the local community. He is a specialist at leading organizations to new levels of growth and effectiveness, with an impeccable record of success in program realignment, staff selection, course design, and implementation of new initiatives. He is a retired US Air Force Colonel and fighter pilot, with an MBA and PhD. Formerly serving as Dean for the NATO School and the United States Air War College, and past President of multiple Vocational Education institutions; Kurt has worked at the highest level with military, international, and civilian schools where he helped redesign programs, structure training certifications, manage international projects, and heighten job placements.

Kurt resides in Carmel Valley with his wife Heidi and the youngest of their four boys. An active pilot and FAA Certified Flight Instructor, he prepares new aviators locally through the Navy Flight School at the Monterey Airport. Kurt actively supports our military and diplomatic community as an adjunct professor of International Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

Kurt joins an incredible team of dedicated professionals committed to restoring the lives of our honored Veterans to full and productive participation in our community. He will lead the strategy and development of the organization as we expand on our past successes, rising to meet the challenges of current and future Veterans.

The mission of the Veterans Transition Center is to provide services for homeless and at-risk Veterans, and their families, throughout the California Central Coast. VTC strives to better the lives of homeless and at-risk Veterans and give them the tools they need to help themselves.
